For The Heights Residents

EMDR for Heights Residents

The Heights has changed fast, and so have a lot of the lives inside it. Long-time residents around 11th Street have watched the neighborhood reshape. Newer arrivals in the bungalows off Yale and Studewood are working through a move, a new job, a marriage, a baby, and sometimes an older memory that all that change quietly stirred up.

EMDR is built for the memory that still feels present. You may know exactly what happened and why it still affects you, and still find your body reacting before you can think. EMDR works with that reaction by pairing the memory with bilateral stimulation in short, paced sets, with you in control the whole time.

Our office is a short drive west of the Heights, on Washington Avenue near Memorial Park. Close enough to fit around a workday, far enough that you are unlikely to run into your neighbors in the parking lot.

Sessions are private pay at $125 to $225 for 45 to 50 minutes, depending on the clinician (see the rate card). The first 15-minute consultation, by phone or Zoom, is free.

What to Expect

How EMDR Works, and What the First Sessions Look Like

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) pairs a specific memory with bilateral stimulation, usually guided eye movements, tapping, or tones, while you stay fully awake and in control. The aim is not to relive the event. It is to let a memory that still feels present get filed as something that happened in the past. EMDR is one of the trauma therapies recommended in PTSD treatment guidelines from the World Health Organization and the VA and Department of Defense.

The protocol has eight phases, and the early ones are about history and preparation, not reprocessing. Your clinician learns what you are carrying, and you practice ways to settle your body before any memory work starts. How long preparation takes depends on the person. Someone working through one recent event may move into reprocessing within a few sessions. Someone with a long history, or who tends to shut down or flood, usually spends longer building that footing first, and that time is part of the work, not a delay.

Because the practice also offers Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing and neurofeedback under one roof, your plan does not have to start with EMDR if something else fits better first. That decision is made with you, case by case. The Heights FAQs

Common Questions From The Heights Clients

How far is your office from The Heights?
From Heights Boulevard and 11th Street it is about 3.4 miles, roughly 8 minutes midday via 11th Street and Durham Drive according to Google Maps. The office is at 8100 Washington Ave, Suite 170, on the west end of Washington Avenue.
How is privacy handled?
Sessions are confidential, and because the practice is private pay, no insurance claim is filed by us. If you choose to submit a superbill to your own plan for reimbursement, that superbill includes diagnosis and service codes, so it is worth deciding that with the information in front of you. If you have a specific privacy concern, raise it on the consultation.
Can EMDR help with anxiety that started long before something specific happened?
It can be a good fit. Long-running anxiety sometimes connects to earlier experiences that did not feel like trauma at the time. Sometimes it makes more sense to begin with Somatic Experiencing or neurofeedback. The free consultation is where that gets decided.
Do you have evening appointments?
Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, and appointment times vary by clinician. Ask on the free consultation which times are open. Therapy sessions, including many EMDR sessions, can also be held by secure telehealth anywhere in Texas.
Do you take insurance?
No. Connect Clinical Services is private pay and does not bill insurance. If your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits, we provide a superbill you can submit, and your plan decides what it pays back. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and a need-based sliding scale is offered for limited availability. Session rates are $125 to $225 depending on the clinician.
