For Galleria / Uptown Residents

Why Uptown Professionals Choose CCS for EMDR

Uptown and the Galleria district run on calendars stacked back to back. The buildings around Williams Tower, the Galleria Mall, and the BLVD Place corridor are full of consultants, executives, oil-and-gas professionals, attorneys, and physicians who learned long ago how to deliver under pressure. Most of the Galleria-area clients we see have built careers on exactly that capacity, and most arrive at our practice when the strategy stops working: insomnia that no longer responds to discipline, irritability that surfaces at home before it surfaces at work, a memory or pattern that is finally too loud to outrun.

EMDR is built for that profile. It does not require you to verbally narrate your trauma in detail. It uses bilateral stimulation to engage both hemispheres of the brain, allowing memories that were never fully processed to finish. The result is that the body’s chronic alarm response settles. The startle eases. The reactivity at home softens. For high-functioning Uptown clients who have already done the cognitive work and want something that actually moves the body, EMDR usually delivers within 6 to 12 sessions for single-event material and a few months for older, layered trauma.

What separates our practice from a standalone Galleria-area EMDR therapist is integration. When EMDR alone is not enough (often the case for clients with chronic insomnia, persistent hyperarousal, or attachment-rooted material), our Clinical Director, Guy Bender, LPC, layers in Neurofeedback to lower baseline brain arousal first, or Somatic Experiencing for the body-based component, or Brainspotting for the deepest subcortical work. That depth of integrated care is rare in this market, and almost nonexistent inside the 610 Loop.

Getting Here

From Galleria / Uptown to Our Heights Office

From Williams Tower at Post Oak Boulevard, take 610 North about 5 miles to I-10 East, exit Studemont, north to Washington Avenue. Off-peak that runs 15 to 18 minutes; afternoon rush adds 10 to 15. From the BLVD Place / River Oaks District side of Uptown, Westheimer to Kirby to Allen Parkway is a useful local-streets alternative when 610 is heavy. From the Galleria Mall area at Sage Road, Memorial Drive east is a scenic and often faster route in the afternoon. We are at 8100 Washington Ave, Suite 170, between Studemont and Heights Boulevard, with free surface parking behind the building. We hold weekday evening appointments starting at 5:30 pm specifically for Galleria-area professionals who do not want to fight the loop twice in one workday.

What to Expect

How EMDR Works (the Short Version)

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, usually guided eye movements, while you briefly hold a memory in mind. The goal is not to relive the event. It is to let the brain finish processing what was never fully integrated at the time. When the processing completes, the memory still exists, but the body’s danger response stops firing when it surfaces. The chronic chest tightness eases. The intrusive thought loses its weight. The story shifts from “this is happening” to “this happened, and I am safe now.”

The protocol is eight phases. The first two are stabilization and resourcing, before any reprocessing begins. You stay in control throughout. Most Galleria clients see measurable shifts in 4 to 6 sessions. Single-event trauma typically resolves in 6 to 12 sessions; older or layered material takes longer and frequently benefits from EMDR combined with Neurofeedback, particularly for clients whose primary symptom is sleep disruption or chronic hyperarousal.

For the full clinical breakdown including the eight phases, read our main EMDR Therapy in Houston page. You may also find our guide to EMDR coping skills between sessions and our Neurofeedback overview useful while you decide.

Galleria / Uptown FAQs

Common Questions From Galleria Clients

How long is the drive from the Galleria to your Heights office?
From Williams Tower or the Galleria Mall, expect 15 to 18 minutes off-peak via 610 North to I-10. Memorial Drive east is a scenic afternoon alternative. We hold evening slots from 5:30 pm so you do not have to fight the loop twice in one workday.
I travel for work most weeks. Can EMDR fit a heavy travel schedule?
Yes. Many Galleria-area clients use a hybrid model: in-person for the deeper reprocessing sessions and HIPAA-compliant secure telehealth for stabilization and check-ins between travel weeks. We can also build EMDR intensives, multiple sessions over a focused two- or three-day window, when your schedule allows it. The free consult is the right place to design the cadence around your calendar.
Privacy is a real concern for me as an executive. How do you handle that?
We take privacy seriously. The waiting area is small and private, sessions are spaced with 15-minute buffers so clients do not run into each other, the building’s covered entry off the back parking lot keeps arrivals discreet, and we do not file insurance, which means no diagnostic code is reported to a payer. Many of our Galleria clients chose us specifically because they do not want a treatment record sitting in an insurer’s database.
